Suburban Solutions was started 4 years ago to address the security needs of suburbs in Johannesburg. Gary Duke, one of the founders, is an attorney whose firm has represented more than 200 road closures in the City of Johannesburg, has acted as legal counsel for over 40 road closures in Pretoria and has submitted road closure applications in Nelspruit, White River, Ekurhuleni, Hartbeespoort and Cape Town.
Gary has represented 22 Residents Associations in 15 High Court applications and has engaged with the public protector on road closures in Gauteng, all of which have been successful.

GARY DUKE
Gary is a senior attorney and has been in private practice since 1994. He has a Bachelor of Commerce and an LLB from Wits University. During his time at Wits he worked part-time for the Legal Aid Board and ran a legal aid clinic in Johannesburg. He then moved to White River, Mpumalanga where he was involved in the Rotary Club and was the chairman of Hospice White River. Since 2003, Gary has specialised in road closure applications and High Court litigation, and over the years has been actively involved in various community projects and initiatives relating to local issues.
ISAAC KHAN
Isaac Khan grew up in Maputo, Mozambique and has been living in South Africa for the last five years. As an entrepreneur, Isaac delved in transportation, property, and entertainment, and recently, he completed a Higher Certificate in Business Principles and Practice from Varsity College. While working for Duke Attorneys, he learnt the intricacies of road closures and bookkeeping and is currently a director of Suburban Solution.
WHAT IS A ROAD
CLOSURE?
If you live in South Africa, then you’ve probably come across a road closure. A road closure, access restriction or gated community is when a physical barrier such as a boom gate is set up at the entrance and exit of a residential area. The physical barriers ensure that all cars and pedestrians travel through these ‘gated’ points, which are always monitored and can be closed.
